Marek Żuławski studied Fine Art in Warsaw in 1926 under Felicjan Szcesny Kowarki and Karol Tichy. In 1935 he travelled across Western Europe, starting a scholarship in France after travelling through Italy. He settled in London but revisited Paris in 1947. His reputation was established following his creation of a fresco in the 'Homes and Garden' pavilion of the 1951 Festival of Britain. He was acquainted with the √©migr√© Polish community in London, including Feliks Topolski, Halima Nalecz and Tadeusz Piotr Potworowski.
