Nigel Ellis was born in 1960 in Hertfordshire and now lives and works in London. He studied at St Albans College of Art and Design (1978-79), Canterbury College of Art (1979-82) and Chelsea School of Art (1983-84). Solo shows include Neptune Gallery, Norfolk (September 2006) and Dual at the Drawing Gallery, London (June 2006). Commissions & collections include the Victoria & Albert Museum (2007), Sculpture At Goodwood, Unilever, British Standards Institution, Universal Music Hammersmith, Michael Sparks (Architects) Associates, University of Notre Dame and Aremia Collection, Holland. He has work in private collections in Britain, Holland & the United States. Nigel was winner of ‘The Artist & the Radio’ (Radio 4, 2005), and other awards include: the Tynan Travel Award (Italy, 1994), Avila Travel Award (New York, 2001) and The Elephant Trust Award (1995).

'Hush' is one of a series of ‘Shade’ paintings of hanging coats and jackets, where the tones and colours are reversed, like a photographic negative. Another work in this series, 'Collar', was included in the exhibition 'Schmatte Couture' curated for Ben Uri by artist Sarah Lightman at the Rivington Gallery in London's East End in 2008.
