Work by Joseph Carl

Joseph Carl was born in Vienna, Austria in 1906. He studied at the Vienna Academy of Art under the architect and designer Oskar Strnad. Carl designed sets for the opera, theatre and political cabarets and in 1938 first travelled to London to work as a set designer. In 1952 he visited Israel for the first time where he also prepared several sets for plays. By the early 1960s he was working in England and Holland, designing for the Netherland Dance Groupe, but returned to Israel in 1963 where he continued to design sets for theatre and cinema.
